IN LOVING MEMORY

FUNERAL ASSISTANTS

We honor the memory of two dedicated longtime employees. Carl Phillips began working part-time for Sedberry Funeral Home in in 1950 and continued on staff until his health began declining in 2018. He was affectionately known to family and close friends as Bubba and we all considered him the patriarch of the Carter Funeral Home Family. Robert Smith came on staff in 1990 and continued until his health kept him from working in 2015. Aside from his funeral work, he was our go-to carpenter and woodworker. Robert built the casket biers used in both funeral homes and several of the floral columns we use today. Bubba and Robert were fixtures on every funeral and visitation. Their dedication to the families we serve was above and beyond. They are missed not only by their families and our staff but by the community as well.

In Loving Memory Doug Huntley

Licensed Funeral Director

Douglas Spencer Huntley, 73, a longtime Laurinburg resident completed his earthly journey all too soon on Monday, July 12, 2021, due to injuries received in an automobile accident.

Doug was a native of Rutherford County, NC, and a son of the late Leslie Howard and Lyattle Rollins Huntley. He graduated RS Central High School, Class of 1966, and with Honors from Cecil’s Business College and Fayetteville Technical Community College. He served his country proudly in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Doug’s first career was in banking having worked with numerous banks across the state and retired from Carter Bank and Trust. Following his retirement, he set out on his lifetime dream and his second career as a funeral director. Doug’s strong commitment to helping others in their time of grief, his calming personality and his attention to detail helped him excel in the profession. He served as manager of Reavis Funeral Home of Statesville from 2015 until 2019. In 2019 he returned to the sandhills and joined the staff of Carter Funeral Home, where he was working at the time of his death. He was also a proud member of Lions International, most recently in the Rockingham Lions Club. Family was of great importance to Doug. He loved the family vacations every year as well as getting together with extended family at the reunions.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 38 years, Lynda Galloway Huntley; two children, Winston Huntley and Amanda Huntley; grandson, Brannon Huntley; a sister, Doris H. Luckadoo and brother Steve K. Huntley (Sandra) and many nieces, nephews and special friends.
