Polly Williams Ward

Polly Williams Ward, 92, of Rockingham, passed away Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at her home.

Mrs. Ward was born September 27, 1927 in Richmond County, a daughter of the late John Wesley and Rosa Glenn Williams. Mrs. Ward was a strong Christian lady and loved by all who knew her. She was a devoted wife, sister, aunt, and friend. She grew up in East Rockingham United Methodist Church and attended in her last years as long as she was able. She was also an active member of Wesley Fellowship United Methodist Church, in Jacksonville, Florida for 50 years. She had a beautiful alto voice and added her talent to choirs at both churches. Her personal Christian ministry was sending cards to everyone on special occasions. There are few in her life that haven’t received a card. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tracy Ward, two brothers, Seawell Williams, Harold Williams, and 3 sisters, Sallie Peele, Melba Grooms, and Ibby Strider.

She is survived by her special nephews and nieces, Joe Williams (Lillian), Janice Carty (Michael), Marsha Dyson (Lyn), Butch Williams (Sarah), Emma Brown (Dewey), Glenda Davis, John Grooms (Carol), Sandy Riggan (Larry), Jennifer Lampley, Sherri Edwards (Buddy), and Bill Dawkins.

A graveside service to celebrate her life will be held at Eastside Cemetery on Friday, August 7, 2020 at 11:00 am. Rev. Michael Griffin, pastor of East Rockingham United Methodist Church will officiate. Due to COVID -19 restrictions, all in attendance are asked to wear masks and social distance as possible.

The family would like to offer special thanks to Richmond County Hospice and her caregivers, Sarah Brigman, Willena Covington, Ivory Pore, and Vickie Covington who loved and cared for her like the angel she was.
