Rev. Walter Robert Newton, 88, of Rockingham passed away peacefully on Thursday February 19, 2026 at Richmond County Hospice Haven. He was born to the late Mack and Pauline Lammonds Newton on September 23, 1937.

Rev. Newton spent many years working for Rockingham Stainless Steel. He was a fill in pastor for Mt. Beulah Pentecostal Holiness Church and most recently pastored Laurinburg Pentecostal Holiness Church. He could sing like Elvis and wrote and sang many songs while playing his guitar.

Surviving are his loving wife of 60 years, Glenda Newton; daughter Dorraine Saillor; grandchildren, Nathan Newton, Josh Saillor and Kailey Saillor; great grandchild, Lyra newton; and brother Johhny Newton.

The family will receive friends for visitation on Sunday February 22, 2026 from 1:45 to 2:45pm at Mt. Beulah Pentecostal Holiness Church with Funeral services following at 3:00 pm. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
