Vivian Campbell Stewart

Vivian Campbell Stewart, 93, of Hamlet, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at Shannon Grey Rehabilitation Center in Jamestown, NC.

Mrs. Stewart, affectionately known as “Viv”, “Ma” or “Nanny”, was born September 26, 1929 in Darlington County, South Carolina, a daughter of the late Daniel and Thelma Hutchinson Campbell. She was a member of Outreach for Jesus and had retired from the JP Stevens Company. This exceptional woman had the most tender heart and the softest hands on earth which made her famous for her soothing back rubs. She also made the greatest sweet tea and the most perfect biscuits in all of North Carolina. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willliam W. Stewart; sons, William D “Danny” Stewart and Larry Stewart, daughter, Linda Mardis, grandson, Travis Stewart, daughter-in-law, Marilyn Hinkle Stewart, and son-in-law Wayne Hendrick, and her bothers Dennis Campbell and William Campbell. What a joyous reunion that must be!

Surviving are her daughter Carolyn Stewart Hendrick, and sons in law Bill Mardis and Kevin Nelson; grandchildren, Heather Hendrick Birtalan, Tracie Stewart Rowe (Andy), Tonya Mardis Holody (Ryan), Lynsey Hendrick, and Chris Mardis (Mikki); great grandchildren, Megan Jordan, Caroline Birtalan, Hannah Birtalan, Kailynn Rowe, Annaliese Rowe, Jayde Rowe, Carringtyn Rowe, Merrilauren Rowe, Marisa Holody, Josie Holody, Vivian Ann Hendrick, Caleb Mardis, Micah Mardis, Silas Mardis, and Lydia Mardis; and sisters, Gretchen Campbell Snead and Freda Campbell Hudson.

Graveside services will be at 1:00 pm Saturday, April 15, 2023 at Eastside Cemetery. The family will greet friends following the service.
