Virginia “Betsy” Elizabeth Williams Currie, 65, of Rockingham, passed away unexpectantly on Monday, January 19, 2026. Born in Richmond County on December 5, 1960, she was a daughter of the late John and Norma Spivey Williams.
Betsy spent many years working in textiles at Burlington Industries. She had a love for all animals, especially dogs, cats and deer. She enjoyed taking pictures and traveling to the mountains or Cherry Grove Beach. Recently she became a fan of the Carolina Hurricanes and would often watch games with her daughter and grandson. Besty loved the grinch and lighthouses, with collections of each.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by a brother, Frank Williams and four beloved huskies.
Surviving are her husband of 44 years, Michael Kent Currie, sons; Jason Currie (Dana), John Currie (Briana) and James Currie (Holly), daughter; Katie Currie Goodson, grandchildren; Emily, Will, Logan, Lucas, Camden, Carson, Colton, Callen, Abbie, Sawyer, Addie, Oliver and one on the way. Siblings; Teri Mclean, Mike Williams and Jamie Williams. She also leaves behind close friends Jerod Teal and Charlie Martin. Lifelong friend Wendy Perkins and loving sister and brother in law, Marlene and David Swanson.
The family will receive friends on Monday, January 26, 2026 from 3:15 to 4:15 pm followed by a Funeral Service at 4:30 at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham. Burial will be held privately at the family cemetery.
