Samuel Lee Smith

November 26, 1967 — June 5, 2025

Rockingham

Samuel Lee Smith, a man known for his loving, kind, and humorist nature, passed away on June 5, 2025, at Richmond County Hospice Haven in Rockingham, North Carolina. Born on November 26, 1967, in Richmond County, North Carolina, Samuel touched the lives of many throughout his journey.

A dedicated heavy equipment operator for Piedmont Natural Gas, Samuel took immense pride in his work. His years of service were marked not only by professionalism but a deep commitment to the safety and efficiency of the projects he undertook. Beyond his career, Samuel's life was woven around his family, which he cherished deeply and regarded as his proudest accomplishment.

In his earlier years, Samuel served honorably in the United States Army National Guard, earning the sharpshooter qualification badge in both rifle and hand grenade handling—an indication of both his skill and determination. This disciplined chapter of his life set the foundation for the loving husband, devoted father, and caring grandfather he would become.

Samuel’s warm spirit was evident in the joy he found in simple moments, particularly during times spent with his family. He loved the camaraderie and competition of golf, where he often found himself laughing and sharing stories with both friends and loved ones on the course.

He is survived by his adoring wife, Theressa Simmons Smith; his beloved children, Samuel Lee Smith, Jr. and Ashley Michelle Abrams (Cameron); and his dear grandchildren, Annsley Michelle Smith, Decklann Lee Smith, and step-grandson Braxton Alexander Abrams. Samuel's legacy will surely live on in their hearts, as they remember the precious moments shared, filled with love, laughter, and the wisdom he imparted.

Samuel rejoins the embrace of his parents, Vester Smith and Beulah Yates Smith, and grandson Krystopher Smith, who left this world before him, leaving behind his spirit that now watches over those he loved dearly.

A time of remembering the life and legacy of Samuel will be held at Jefferson Park Free Will Baptist Church on Saturday, June 14, 2025 at 1pm with Rev. Kane McKenzie and Rev. Carroll Anthony officiating. Family and friends can pay their respects to from 11:45am ~ 12:45pm prior to the service.

Interment will follow at Mt. Beulah Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery.

As his family reflects on the memories of spending time with him, they take solace in knowing that Samuel's finally at home. In this time of loss, they celebrate the beautiful life he led and the indelible mark he leaves on their hearts. Samuel Lee Smith will be forever remembered as a gentle soul, whose presence brought joy to all fortunate enough to know him.
