Robert George Silvestri

  Robert George “Bob” Silvestri, 85, of Ellerbe, passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at Hospice Haven in Rockingham. Bob was born April 9, 1932 in Danville, Virginia and grew up in Greensboro, NC. In 1921 his father, Johnny Orlando Silvestri, immigrated to the US from Italy and married Ida Wann. Bob had served his country in the US Army from which he retired after 20 years of service. He later retired from Owens Illinois, was a member of the VFW and American Legion. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Tilley Silvestri. Surviving are his sisters-in-law, Barbara Sears of Ellerbe, Mary Dunn of Mt. Gilead, numerous nieces and nephews and friends from the American Legion and VFW. Graveside services with Military Honors will be at 11 am Saturday at Ellerbe Cemetery.  There will be a gathering of family and friends from 6 to 8 pm Friday at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham. Thanks to Richmond County Hospice for their extraordinary service given to Mr. Silvestri, every single staff member went above and beyond in his care.  In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to Richmond County Hospice, 1119 US Hwy 1 N, Rockingham, NC 28379.
