Robert Worth McFayden, 87, of Ellerbe, a cherished husband, devoted father, beloved grandfather, and steadfast friend, passed away on December 2, 2025, at the FirstHealth Hospice House in West End, North Carolina. He was born on May 8, 1938, in Richmond County, North Carolina, and lived a life filled with love, dedication, and a passion for the great outdoors.
Robert dedicated his career to serving as a Field Service Representative for Ellerbe Poultry, White Poultry, and ultimately retired from N.G. Purvis Farms. His work ethic and commitment to his profession were matched only by his love for the land and the animals he worked with. Known for his prowess as a Champion Beagle Field Trial Trainer, Robert spent countless hours outdoors, where he found immense joy in training beagles and participating in field trials. An avid sportsman, he embraced every moment crafted by nature's hand, sharing his passion for the outdoors with his family and friends.
For 62 years, Robert was a proud member of Elberta Lodge #654, A.F.&A.M, where the bonds formed through brotherhood and community enriched his life and the lives of those around him. His contributions to the lodge and the values he upheld were a testament to his character and the lasting legacy he leaves behind.
Robert is survived by his beloved wife, Marie Purvis McFayden, with whom he shared 64 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a family that includes their daughters, Dawn McFayden Jones (Ken) and Melinda McFayden Perritt (Richard Boyd), and their son, Dr. Robert W. McFayden, Jr. He took great pride in being a grandfather to Spencer Perritt (Renee Tew), Hunter Perritt, Bailey Jones, and Lyndsay Kim, who brought so much joy to his life. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and son-in-law, Edwin Perritt, who will fondly remember his warmth and kindness.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Colon Alexander and Etta Freeman McFayden, as well as his siblings: Ralph McFayden (Dorothy), Colon McFayden (Gladys), Willard McFayden (Enid), Harold McFayden (Peggy), Jean McFayden, and Lillian Sherrill (Woodford). Their memories and the love they shared continue to be an integral part of Robert's enduring legacy.
His visitation will be held on Friday, December 12, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe, followed by a funeral service on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Mt Carmel Presbyterian Church, with Rev. James Watson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Rev. Eric Johnson officiating. Masonic Rites will be afforded to Mr. McFayden by Elberta Lodge 654, A.F. & A.M..
As we remember Robert, let us carry forward his spirit of love, laughter and dedication, holding dear the moments he treasured most—moments with family, moments spent in nature, and moments of quiet reflection in the company of good friends.
