Richard Ben Barber, Jr., known for his dedication to serving his country and his successful career as a boilermaker, passed away on June 20, 2024 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 18, 1950, in Richmond County, North Carolina to Richard Ben Barber and Minnie Lou Grant Barber.

Richard's life was marked by love and laughter. A proud Coast Guard veteran, he transitioned into a fulfilling career as a boilermaker after his military service. His work was not just a job it was a passion that brought him immense joy.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Richard cherished his family above all else. He is survived by his devoted spouse, Beverly Sears Barber; loving children Dana Michelle Sauls and William Richard Barber (Meredith); and a legacy of grandchildren: Bryson J. Hudson, Kaity Ann Sauls, Chad Hamilton Sauls, Madelyn Grace Barber, and Shelby Rose Barber; brother Robert Wayne Barber (Pam); nephew Ben Barber.

Richard found immense joy, known as "Papa", while spending time with his grandchildren and attending any event that involved them. His memories will forever be cherished by those who knew him best.

Richard was a man of many interests outside of work and family. He graduated from high school and held an associate degree with the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers. Described as funny, caring, and deeply devoted to his family, Richard touched the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

His passing leaves a void in the lives of his family and friends who will miss his presence dearly. Richard is reunited in Heaven with his father Richard Ben Barber, mother Minnie Lou Grant Barber, and brother Sidney Curtis Barber.

A visitation to honor Richard's life will take place on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, from 12:45pm ~ 1:45pm at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham. This will be followed by a Memorial Service at 2:00pm in the Carter Funeral Home Colonial Chapel with Rev. Mitchell Roller officiating.

Inurnment will follow at a later date in Ellerbe Cemetery, Ellerbe, North Carolina.

In celebrating Richard's life, we remember a remarkable individual who touched many hearts with his kindness and humor. May he rest in peace knowing he was loved and will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
