Randy Wayne Nelson

Randy Wayne Nelson, 63, of Ellerbe, NC passed peacefully into his heavenly home on May 15, 2021. Surrounded by his loving family, his faith was made sight as he entered the presence of Jesus. He fought a good fight, and he finished his race well.

Randy was born the son of Theodore Wayne “Joe” Nelson and Marie Williams Nelson. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, James Kyle Nelson. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Lynn Hudson Nelson, son Travis (Angel) Nelson, daughter Lyndsey (Jeffrey) Moss; grandchildren Hannah (James) Henry, Justin (Alexis) Ricks, Jonathan (Cameron) Ricks, Colton Nelson, Kensley Moss, and expected Moss twins; great-granddaughter Miley Ricks; sister Rhonda (Alan) Thames, and brother Carlton (Sue) Nelson; and many nieces and nephews.

Randy was a 45-year dedicated employee of Burlington Industries Richmond Plant in Cordova, NC. During his time spent in the textile industry, Randy was widely respected and loved by all he encountered. His colleagues revered him as a good and noble man.

Randy was a devoted husband to his soul mate, Lynn. Together they built a life founded on God’s promises of Psalm 128. They shared an unbreakable love that was Christ-centered which enabled them to raise a strong, Christian family.

He was also a devoted “Deddy” who was dedicated to instilling his life values into the hearts of his children. He used his life experiences to instill Godly principles and instruction that molded his children into the adults they are today.

One of his greatest roles in life was his service as “Papa Randy.” He loved to share his hunting stories where his excitement was seen in his grandchildren’s eyes. He invented many games, stories, and songs that will be passed down to the next generation.

He was a founding member of Harmony Baptist Church in Rockingham, NC. Randy loved his church family dearly and he served them as an elder and Sunday school teacher for many years.

Randy was an avid outdoorsman and was closest to his Lord while enjoying God’s creation. Some of his most favorite times were spent on the banks of the Pee Dee River camping, fishing, hunting, and teaching many skiers how to glide across the water. He enjoyed his home-away-from-home at Holden Beach, NC where he spent countless days with his toes in the sand and cruising down the Intercoastal waterway on his Carolina Skiff.

Randy’s astounding presence and Godliness will be felt in the hearts of his dear family and friends for eternity.

Funeral services will be held at Bethel Baptist Church in Ellerbe, NC at 4 pm on Tuesday, May 18th. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Memorials may be made to Harmony Baptist Church, Bethel Baptist Church, or the Gideon’s International.
