Rachel Cycotte

Rachel Joann Powell Cycotte, 65 of Hamlet, NC, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, peacefully departed this life to be with her Lord and Savior on January 24, 2026, at her home. She was born on August 21, 1960, in Richmond County, North Carolina.

With a passion for helping others, Rachel dedicated 44 years of her life to serving as a Registered Nurse from Texas to North Carolina finishing her career at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst. Her commitment to her profession was unwavering, and she touched countless lives during her tenure, embodying the spirit of kindness and service. Graduating with a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Pembroke, she carried the lessons of her education into every facet of her work.

Rachel's devotion extended far beyond her career; her true joy lay in the love and care she provided for her family and friends. A proud mother to Stefanie Starbird (Paul), Daphne Powers (James), and Tiffany

Youngblood, Rachel showered her daughters with affection and support, fostering a bond that would carry through generations. She adored her grandchildren—McKenzie, Mason, Addison, Grayson, Ashley, Tiffany, Ethan, Summer, Dylan, and Bryson—and cherished the time spent with them. A great-grandmother to little Harper, her heart swelled with pride and happiness when surrounded by their laughter and joy.

In addition to her immediate family, Rachel held a special place in her heart for her brother, Steve Powell (Joan), her stepchildren, Rebecca Cycotte and Andrew Cycotte,  her lifelong friend, Sylvia Rivas and several nieces and nephews. The friendships she forged were lifelong treasures, and she embraced every opportunity to nurture and uplift those around her. Rachel had a tremendous love for animals, plants, and cooking, and her home was always filled with warmth, nourishment, and the sweet sounds of dancing.

Rachel's life mantra was to leave everything better than she found it, a testament to her compassionate spirit. Her genuine care for others was evident in her hobbies—shopping, visiting the beach, and the joy she found in being a caretaker were just a few of the ways she shared her love with the world.

She is preceded in death by her parents, H.C. (Tom) and Ruth Robinson Powell, her husband, Timothy Michael Cycotte, granddaughter Caitlin, her sister Betty Pomeroy, and an infant sister, all of whom she will reunite with in the afterlife.

The spirit of Rachel Joann Powell Cycotte will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. Her funeral service will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026, at 4:00 pm at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham, NC, with visitation following.
