Mazeleen Richardson Stewart (Maw), a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on August 8, 2025, at the Richmond County Hospice Haven, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing her. Born on April 30, 1947, Mazeleen was a beacon of kindness, laughter, and love in the lives of her family and friends. Her witty sense of humor and cheerful disposition lit up any room and brought joy to those around her.
Mazeleen took immense pride in her family, viewing them as her greatest accomplishment. She is survived by her beloved children, William "Bill" Franklin Stewart, Jr. (Starr Raines) and Crystal Lynn Bass (Ken), along with her treasured grandchildren: Ronnie Varner (Madison), Tyler Bass (Valeria), Ashlynn Stewart, Kamryn Simmons, and Payton Norris. Each of them held a special place in her heart, and their time spent together will be fondly remembered as precious moments that exemplified the love and warmth that Mazeleen poured into her family.
She also leaves behind her dear siblings, Legrand Richardson, Evonne Phillips, and Annette Dawkins, who shared many fond memories and laughter with her throughout the years. The bonds of family were sacred to Mazeleen, and she nurtured those relationships with care and affection.
She had a deep love for her dogs and cats, finding joy and companionship in the furry friends that filled her home. Her kind spirit extended beyond her family, touching everyone who crossed her path. Whether it was through a heartfelt conversation or sharing a funny story, she had an effortless ability to uplift others.
Mazeleen is reunited in spirit with her parents, David Clinton Richardson and Easdale Shaw Taylor Richardson; her husband, William Franklin Stewart; and her brothers and sister, Rev. Wayne D. Richardson, David Wiley Richardson, Wilbur Richardson, Athos Richardson, Worth Richardson, and Mary Lena Bristow. Though they are no longer with us, the memories they shared will forever resonate in the hearts of her loved ones.
Funeral Service to honor Mazeleen's life will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe with Rev. Leon Hawks officiating.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, from 12:45 PM to 1:45 PM at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe.
As we gather to celebrate the beautiful life of Mazeleen Richardson Stewart, we find comfort in the enduring love she bestowed upon her family and friends, reminding us to cherish each moment and to always seek joy in the simple pleasures of life. Her memory will forever remain a source of inspiration and warmth in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that Memorials may be made to Ellerbe Rescue as well as Richmond County Hospice.
