Mary Rainwater Hudson

Mary Rainwater Hudson, 86, of Rockingham, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at Hospice Haven in Rockingham. She was born in Richmond County, NC on November 22, 1937, a daughter of the late Herman and Ethel Shaw Rainwater. Mary was a member of Roberdel Baptist Church and retired from the textile industry.

Mary was a loving, caring and spiritual woman who loved her husband, children and their spouses unconditionally. She was Grandma Mary and GiGi Mary to her grand and great grandchildren who loved and adored her so much. She never said goodbye to us without a hug and a I love you. She was the person who would always speak to you and was so welcoming to everyone. Mary would light up any room she came into. We are so blessed to have had her in our lives for as long as we did and she will be forever missed. 

Mary is survived by her husband of 47 years, Jack Thomas Hudson; her children, Garry Martin (Dava), Suzette Martin, Darlene Kirkley (Billy), Stanley Martin, Joe Martin (Robin), Jamie Martin (Cheryl), and Pam Hamrick (Bill); daughter-in-law, Sandy Hudson; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; siblings, J.B. Rainwater, and Sam Rainwater and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Bowden, stepson Michael Hudson,daughter-in-law, Tangie Martin and son-in-law Danny Jacobs. 

Funeral services will be at 12:00 pm, Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Roberdel Baptist Church with Rev. Lenier Furr and Rev. June Grant officiating. Interment will follow in Eastside Cemetery. 

The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until 11:45 am, Saturday at the church and at other times at the Kirkley home, 403 Wallace St., Hamlet, NC.
