Mark Alan Sanford

Mark Alan Sanford, 54 of Rockingham, passed away on Thursday, August 23, 2018. Mark was the son of the late Jimmy Ray Sanford  and of  Carolyn Layton Sanford Chavis. He was born on December 31, 1963 in Richmond County.  Mark worked at Omni Systems and was an active Boy Scout Leader. He was camping chairman, assistant district chairman, unit commissioner, assistant scout master. He received the rank of brotherhood in the Order of the Arrow and his life in Scouting Wood Badge.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Mitchell Ray Sanford.

Surviving are his mother Carolyn Layton Sanford Chavis and husband , Ken Chavis; son, Kevin Alan Sanford and  fiancée Shelly McDonald; daughter, Katelyn Nicole Sanford; grandchildren, Tristan Lyn Sanford, Ethan Alan Sanford, Zander Luke Harris, Mason Lee McDonald; sister, Angela Sanford Watkins and husband Paul Watkins, and nephews, Alex Watkins and Caleb Watkins.

Funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, August 26, 2018 at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Rockingham. Burial will be in Northam Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from  6 – 8 pm at Carter Funeral Home.
