Emma Louise Gathings Hinson, 97, of Rockingham, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 2, 2026.
She was born February 4, 1929, in Anson County, North Carolina to the late James Clinton and Emma Dinah Bryant Gathings. Though she grew up on a farm, she dedicated fifty years of her working life to the textile industry. She was known for her strong work ethic, quiet strength, and steady determination. In 1952, she married James E. “Jim” Hinson. They shared 60 devoted years of marriage until his passing in 2013. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Bob and Buddy, her sisters, Vera, Annie Ruth, Mary, and Frances.
She is survived by her son, Richard L. “Rick” Hinson (Dianne), and her daughter, Karen H. Stogner (Larry); her grandchildren, Chad Hinson, Jill Hinson, Jeremy Hollingsworth (Elisha), Ian Hollingsworth (Shelby), Emma Stogner, Meredith Stogner, and her great grandchildren, Alex Brown, Matthew Brown, Addyson Hollingsworth, Cameron Hinson, Caroline Hinson, Holden Hollingsworth, Afton Hollingsworth. She is also survived by her sister, Peggy Butts and brother, Ralph Gathings.
The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to Richmond County Hospice and to her caregivers, Ivory Pore, Sarah Brigman, Joanne Wilson, Mia Dixon, Alberta Bivens and Kim Blake.
The family will receive friends from 11:45 am – 12:45 pm Friday, March 6, 2026, at The ROC Church, (East Rockingham Church of God of Prophecy), 139 Flowers Street, Rockingham. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm with Pastor Steve Gilmer and Pastor Stacy Tuttle officiating. Following the service, she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband in the Mausoleum at Richmond Memorial Park.
