"Lori" Ponds

Hazel Lorene Cornwell Ponds, 71, known to family and friends as “Lori”, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2019, at Hospice Haven of Rockingham.  She was born November 6, 1947, in Effingham, IL.  

Lori had been a resident of North Carolina since 1967 and had worked in the textile industry.  Although she was a quiet and unassuming person, she loved people, animals and the outdoors. She is survived by three children: Shawn Edward Ponds of Lilesville, Dolly Ann Ponds and Pamela Lorene Ponds, both of Rockingham; grandchildren, Jeremy Ray Ponds and Amber Lorene Ponds; her friend and companion of 26 years, Johnny Deaton; her “adopted mother”, Louise Deaton; and her beloved Siberian Husky, “Sassy.” She is also survived by a brother, George Cornwell, and two sisters, Elaine and Ruby Cornwell, all of Illinois.

The family will have private services at a later date.
