Joel “Lloyd” Meggs, Sr., 72, passed away Monday, November 9, 2020, at Hospice Haven in Rockingham. Lloyd, as he was known to family and friends, was born in Marlboro County, SC, on July 24, 1948, the son of the late Joel Madison Meggs and Libbie Clay Meggs.
Lloyd graduated from Rockingham High School. He was a member of Cordova Baptist Church for 62 years where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher and other areas of service with the church. He was an insurance salesman with Southern Life, then Liberty Life, for more than 32 years. He also enjoyed outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing and camping, but his greatest joy was being with his family.
His surviving family include his children, Tina Faircloth and Joey Meggs, both of Rockingham, and Anna Cloninger (Billy) of Ellerbe; three grandchildren, Alaini Faircloth and Nathan and Noah Cloninger; one sister, Dianne McAuley of Ellerbe; plus a host of friends, customers and his church family.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday, November 13, at Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery. His pastor, Rev. Doug Anderson, will officiate. The family will receive friends at Lloyd’s home after the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Cordova Baptist Church, P.O. Box 160, Cordova, NC 28330.
