Johnnie Sims Freeman, 89, of Rockingham, passed away on Monday, September 28, 2026 at Richmond County Hospice Haven, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on March 21, 1937 in Richmond County, a daughter of the late Wiley and Daisy Poe Sims. She worked for Sandhurst for 33 years.

Johnnie enjoyed reading, cooking and attending service at Community Church. Most of all she loved her family, spending many evenings playing cards with her sisters or her grandchildren. She was a patient and kind wife, mother and grandma, that will be deeply missed.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters, her son Steven Greene and great granddaughter Endearia Crowder.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 46 years, Charles Freeman; children: Christine Webb, Bernice Braswell, Drema Jackson (Aaron), Genevia Moore (James) and Chuck Freeman (Karla); grandchildren: Sarah, Daisy, Kayla, Little Sarah, Eric, Hunter, Daphne, Harvey, Douglas, Jesse, Kacidie and Madison; great grandchildren: Kierra, Corey, Isaih, Amaya, Uzziah, Da-Paris, Nora, Jamileh, Ayyoub, Violet, Savvy, Samaria and Harlow; great great grandchildren: Julian and Asher; and her sister Gay McLean.

The family will receive friends for visitation from 5:00 – 7:00 pm on Thursday October 1, 2026 at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham. Funeral service will be at 1:00 pm on Friday, October 2, 2026 at Community Church. Interment will follow at Ellerbe Cemetery.
