Johnathan David “Johnny” Willoughby, 79, of Hamlet, passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2026 at Richmond County Hospice Haven.

Mr. Willoughby was born June 17, 1947 in Richmond County, a son of the late Leonard and Viola Goins Willoughby. Johnny was a member of Harvest Ministries Congregational Holiness Church and had retired from Richmond County Government as Building and Maintenance Supervisor. In his younger years he worked on dirt track racing teams, he enjoyed fast cars, and was an avid fisherman and hunter, In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Monnie Robson Willoughby, brothers, Furman Willoughby, Odell Willoughby, Dewey Willoughby, Jimmy Willoughby and sisters, Juanita Yates and Dotsy Marze.

Surviving are his daughter, Dana Willoughby; grandchildren, Emma Clancy, Tullis Clancy, Hadley Thomas, Aiden Thomas, Ben Thomas, great grandchild, Silas Thomas and sister, Peggy Chapman.

The family will receive friends from 9:45 – 10:45 am Monday, September 14, 2026 at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham with funeral services to follow at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in Richmond County Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to Richmond County Hospice, 1119 US Hwy 1 N, Rockingham, NC 28379.
