John Wesley Layton, Jr, 58 of Florence, SC passed away surrounded by family on Thursday February 26, 2026 at his mother’s home. John Wesley was born on November 20, 1967 to Elaine Sweatt Thompson and the late John Wesley Layton, Sr.

After high school, John Wesley attained his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. He loved fishing, duck hunting and shooting pool with friends. He also enjoyed spending time with his beloved dog, Duke. Along with his father, he was preceded in death by a brother Randy Lee Layton, Sr.

Those left to cherish his memory are his mother Elaine Thompson and husband Buddy; nephews: Randy Layton, Jr. and Cameron Tyson; step brother Steve Thompson and wife Angel and step sister Christie Smith and husband Joey.

The family will receive friends for vastation on Monday March 02, 2026 from 12:45 to 1:45 PM at Abundant Life Church of God. Funeral service will begin at 2:00 PM with burial following at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery in Wallace, South Carolina.
