James Edward Bullion, 89, answered his final call to duty Saturday, March 27, 2021, at his home in Rockingham. A native of Kingsport, TN, he was born June 2, 1931, a son of the late Allen Harveston Bullion and Myrtle Evans Bullion. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two children, James E. Bullion II and Connie Jean Fields, and three brothers, Kenneth, Robert and Larry Bullion.

His memory will be cherished by his wife of 70 years, Barbara Jean Quick Bullion; four grandchildren: Lorie Brackhahn Tew (Greg), Lennie Brackhahn, Winston Bullion and Melissa Humber; four great grandchildren: Brandon Lee (Megan), Meghan McKenzie, Kylic Humber and Kaden Humber; four great-great grandchildren: Violet Brackhahn, Alayna Lee, Olivia Lee and Kason Humber;  four brothers, William, Charles, David and Jerry Bullion; and two sisters, Betty Hawkins and Linda Bullion.

Mr. Bullion had two distinguished careers. First, he honorably served 20 years in the United States Army with service in Korea, Okinawa, Germany and Fort Bragg. He was a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne unit for 4 years and retired as a Sgt. First Class in 1972. His next career was in service to Richmond County where he headed up the ambulance service for 26 years.

He was an active member of Freedom Baptist Church as long as he was able. He was a skilled woodworker and enjoyed building things as well as working in his yard. His dedication and love for his family was evident to all who knew him.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 30, at Richmond County Memorial Park. Pastor Ronnie McLean will officiate and military honors will be provided.  There will be no formal visitation but his body will lie in state at Carter Funeral Home from 12:00 noon until 1:00 PM Tuesday for those who wish to pay their respects.
