Hugh Johnson Kellis

Mr. Hugh Johnson Kellis, 85, passed away Monday, August 19, 2019, at Hermitage Retirement Center where he had been a resident for many years. A native of the Norman community of Richmond County, he was born October 11, 1933, the last surviving child of the late Calvin Kellis and Ethel Johnson Kellis. He was a proud graduate of Ellerbe High School.

He was also preceded in death by six siblings:     J. C. Kellis, Allie Lee Shaw, Lois Caulder, Evelyn Broadway Maske, Edith Murchison and Miriam Kluth. Survivors include a special friend, Sarah Goins, plus a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Thursday at Carter Funeral Home in Rockinham. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday at Carter Funeral Home-Colonial Chapel officiated by Rev. Chris Thornton. Interment will follow in the Kellis Family Cemetery off Center Baptist Church Road, Jackson Springs, NC.
