Herbert Mabe

Gid Herbert Mabe, 87, of Ellerbe, passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Mr. Mabe was born June 22, 1930 in Stokes County, NC, a son of the late Gid and Dora Bennett Mabe. He had served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a farmer and former owner/operator of the Dixie Burger in Ellerbe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Hassell, Dewey and Watson Mabe and sisters, Beatrice Ingram and Irene Meachum. 

Surviving are his wife, Elva Fulp Mabe of the home; children, Kim Simmons (Ray) and Gidget Thomas (Chris), all of Ellerbe; grandchildren, Ashley Barnhardt (Bradley) and Lauren Simmons (Jonathan Thompson) and great grandchildren, Kennedy Rae and William Cade.

Funeral services will be at 2pm Thursday at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe with Rev. Wayne Luck officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Ellerbe Cemetery.

The family will see friends from 12:45 – 1:45 pm Thursday at the funeral home and at other times at the home.
