Harold Rodney Hines

Harold Rodney Hines, 88, of Rockingham, passed away Thursday, November 25, 2021 at his home.  

Mr. Hines was born on May 18^th, 1933 in Richmond County, a son of the late John Robert Hines and Myrtle Haltom Hines Allen. He proudly served his country in the US Air Force and was a law enforcement officer for many years.  He and his wife Vonnie were the proud owners of Rockingham Skateland for 60 years; a place that brought them an abundance of joy while serving generations of families in the community.  Harold valued family and loved every minute spent with them.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Vonnie Mae Watts Hines, his siblings, John Robert Hines, Doris Pietrzak, Mary Yandle, Jack Hines, Edith Griffin, Joe Hines, Carlton Allen; and a granddaughter Deana Brock.

Surviving are his children, Mike Poplin of Hamlet, Luanne Diggs (Talmadge) of Rockingham, Harold Hines Jr. (Kandice) of Greensboro, Chris Hines (DeeDee) of Rockingham.  His grandchildren Michael Poplin (Melissa), Rodney Hines (Wendy), Nicole Goodwin (Jason), Joel Layton (Kate), Taylor McDonald (Chris), Hailey Hines (Andrew), and Cody Diggs; great grandchildren, Alex and Kalli Poplin, Terry Poplin and Austin Brock, Serra and RJ Hines,   Layton Mae and Charlie Goodwin, Abby Grace and Caroline Layton, and brother, James T. Hines of Bennettsville, SC. 

A service to celebrate a life well lived will be at 4:00 pm Monday, November 29, 2021 at the Church of God of Prophecy in Rockingham. The family will greet friends following the service.
