Freddie Lee West

Freddie Lee West,  78, of Rockingham passed away on  April 2, 2023 at Hospice Haven of  Richmond County.  Freddie was born on March 17, 1945 in Richmond County,  a son of the late Walter and Virginia “Bill” Hogan West. He was a veteran of the Army and National Guard and was retired from the N.C. Department of Corrections. He enjoyed fishing, sitting on the porch, reading a book or playing on his kindle. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Williams and a niece Tracie Driggers.

Surviving are his loving wife, Cathy Gazoo West; sister Joyce Melton(Robert) of Ellerbe; son Marcus West,(Krista) of Ellerbe, daughters, Brenda Ladner and Pat Hatcher of Rockingham, and Kristie Stewart of the home. Seven grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, 1 niece, 3 great nephews, 2 great-great nephews and his beloved dog Bandit.

Funeral Service will be at 2:00 pm Thursday at a Place of Grace, with Rev. Johnny Newton officiating. Interment will follow the service in Richmond County Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends and family on Wednesday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham.
