Elsie Bittle Callahan

Elsie Bittle Callahan, of Rockingham, completed her earthly journey on Friday, August 4, 2023.

Daughter of Ed and Willie Victoria Simpson Bittle, she was born on June 13th, 1935. 

Mrs. Callahan attended Zion Community Church. She loved spending time with her friends and family; especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also fond of traveling, with the beach being a favorite. 

She was a kind woman full of life, love, and strength. Years prior to her death she won her battle against cancer.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Richard Callahan; her son, Homer Richard Callahan Jr.; and siblings, Thomas Bittle, Woodrow Bittle, Dewey Bittle, Colene Bittle Young,  and Willie Mae Boling.

Surviving are brother, Paul Bittle; daughters Patti Conner (Chuck) and Diane Griffin; daughter-in-law Candi Callahan; grandchildren Shane Spencer (Jennifer), Meagan Griffin, Christina Moore (Justin), Dr. Chandler Conner (fiancé Sarah Cross), Ricky Callahan (Teressa); and great-grandchildren Taylor Spencer,  Micah Shane Spencer II, Wyatt Spencer, McKenzie Duranko, Ricky Callahan Jr., Adeline Moore, Justin Moore Jr., and Christopher Callahan; as well as many nieces and nephews she loved dearly. 

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 8th at 3:00 pm in the chapel of Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham with Rev. Ron Schermerhorn officiating. Interment will follow in Eastside Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:45 – 2:45 pm Tuesday at the funeral home and at other times at the Conner home.
