Obituary

Edith Whitley Blake, 89, of Rockingham, completed her earthly journey and went to be her Lord and Savior on Thursday April 2, 2026.

Mrs. Blake was born January 11, 1937, in Montgomery County, NC, a daughter of the late William Claudy and Ruby King Whitley. At a young age, Edith met the love of her life, Alvin, and followed him around the world for 24 years in his service of the military. Upon retirement, they made their home in Rockingham, NC. Edith had a vibrant life; she enjoyed working in her yard, growing flowers, growing and harvesting her own garden. She enjoyed putting up and canning her vegetables. Moreso, she enjoyed cooking Sunday dinner and spending time with her family. Her grandchildren were the apple of her eye. She kept all types of sweets just for her grandchildren to enjoy.

Edith was a faithful member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Rockingham, where she served in many aspects. Her passion was helping in the kitchen, visiting, and serving others. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 69 years, Alvin Blake, her sister Joyce Caulder and brother William Whitley, Jr.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Sharon Marinell (Greg), Karen Parker and Vickie Brown (Gene); grandchildren, Mandy Parker (Roger), Derek Brown (Nikki), Justin Brown (Holli), Ashleigh Blakley (Danny) and Blake Lowe (Shelby); great grandchildren, Zoe, Paisley, Charlee, Lexi, Lily, Brooks, Whitley and Ann; brothers, Hubert Whitley, Sammy Whitley and J.C. Whitley; and sister Jean Hudson.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Monday April 6, 2026, at the Church of God of Prophecy in Rockingham with Pastor Stacy Tuttle officiating. Interment will follow at Richmond County Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Sunday April 5, 2026, at the church and at other times at the home.
