Dan Griggs, Sr.

Daniel Beler “Dan” Griggs, Sr., affectionately known as "Big Dan" or "Papa Dan",  passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, August 12, 2020, at PruittHealth of Rockingham at the age of 62. A former resident of Richmond Road, he was born November 30, 1957, a son of Obira Ravernail Griggs, Sr., who survives, and the late Etta Jean Garris Griggs.

Prior to health problems, Dan had worked in industrial construction as an electrician and a pipefitter for many years. He enjoyed a good time with friends which included watching football and he was an especially devoted fan of the Carolina Panthers.

He leaves behind by a large and loving family. Surviving in addition to his dad are two children, Daniel Griggs, Jr. (Samantha) of Rockingham and Lindsay Scoggins (Kurt) of Rydal, GA; three grandchildren, Daniel “Tripp” Griggs III, Sophie and Sela Scoggins; his siblings: David Griggs (Kathy) of Clemmons, NC, Richard Griggs (Sylvia) of Columbia, SC, Ginny Roberts (Dennis) of Ocean Isle Beach, NC, Stanley Griggs (Laura) of Clayton, NC, and Michael Griggs (Angela) of Holden Beach, NC; plus numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. His mother, Etta Jean, and one brother, Obira Griggs, Jr., preceded him in death.

Graveside services will be conducted at 12:30 PM Saturday, August 15, at Eastside Cemetery.
