Curtis Eugene “Swiper” Laxton, 82 of Rockingham died February 3, 2024 after a long battle with kidney disease.
Curtis was born April 17, 1941 in Charlotte, NC to Fornie Moore and Anne Belle Little Laxton.
Curtis spent his younger years in Lexington, NC., He was a graduate of Lexington High School, after high school he worked in the Lexington furniture industry. Curtis proudly served his country during the Vietnam Conflict attaining the rank of Sergeant assigned to the 47th Battalion of the US Army. After his military service Curt became a truck driver, he worked for Lowes, and retired at age 75 from Jordan Lumber Co. He was an avid sports fan, outdoorsman and loved to dance with his wife Tammy whenever he got the chance.
Curtis was preceded in death by his parents, his three brothers, Rev. Bob Laxton, Paul Laxton, Larry Laxton and his sister Joyce L. Perdue.
He is survived by his loving wife Tammy H. Laxton of the home, his brothers Jack Laxton and wife Ruby of Albemarle, Ernie Laxton of Lexington, NC and Jerry Laxton and wife Nancy of Spencer, NC., grandchildren Stevie and Kim Mahala of Lexington, NC and Randi Edwards. Also surviving are four great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and special friends Terry Barnhill and wife Paula of Rockingham and James Rye and wife Linda of Laurel Hill, NC.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday February 6, 2024 at Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Rockingham with Rev. Ernest Laxton and David Hudson officiating. The family will receive friends 12:45 to 1:45 Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow in Richmond County Memorial Park.
