Brenda Hayes Peele, 83, of Hamlet passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.
Brenda was born September 28, 1942 in Richmond County, a daughter of the late Charlie and Ella Bean Hayes. Brenda was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and servant of the Lord. She was married to her beloved husband, Johnny, for 67 years. Their life together was filled with love, devotion, and countless cherished memories.
Brenda is survived by her husband, Johnny; her children, Windy Peele and Danny Ray Peele (Darlene); her grandchildren, Tomy Leviner (Stacey), Amanda Baker (Robert), Adrian Fisher (Harold), and Joshua Peele (Amber), Brittany King, and Travis King; eleven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Brenda also leaves behind her siblings, Mary Allen, LC Hayes, and Dannie Hayes (Rose).
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Little Johnny and siblings, Richard Hayes, Clifford Hayes, Edith Jacobs and Beatrice Heaton.
Family was the center of Brenda's life, and she loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly. She took great joy in being a “nana” and treasured every moment spent with her family.
Brenda was known for her generous heart and her love of feeding others. She believed that one of the best ways to show love was through a good home-cooked meal, and she was happiest when her family and friends gathered around her table. No one was likely to leave Brenda's home hungry.
She also enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, especially sitting in her recliner watching the birds. Johnny lovingly kept the bird feeders filled for her, giving her hours of enjoyment as she watched the birds come and go.
Brenda attended Hopewell Independent Baptist Church and loved the Lord. Her faith, love for her family, and generous spirit were an important part of the legacy she leaves behind.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Friday, September 4, 2026 at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, September 5, 2026 at Hopewell Independent Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Carpenter and Rev. Aaron Carpenter officiating. Interment will follow in the Peele Cemetery.
Brenda will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew and loved her. Her memory will live on through the many lives she touched and through the family she loved so dearly.
Memorials may be made to Hopewell Independent Baptist Church, 295 Battley Dairy Road, Hamlet, NC 28345 or to Richmond County Hospice, 1119 US Hwy 1 N, Rockingham, NC 28379.
