Barbara Edna Vaughn Lyerly

Barbara Edna Vaughn Lyerly, a dedicated and compassionate teacher assistant with Richmond County Schools for over 38 years, passed away on August 2, 2024, at her home in Rockingham, NC. She was born on July 20,1950, in Anson County, North Carolina.

Barbara will always be remembered for the cherished memories she created with her loved ones. She recently celebrated her 74th birthday surrounded by her loving family. She enjoyed gathering with those she loved, and cooking Sunday dinner. You could always find her enthusiastically cheering on her grandchildren at their ball games, or any activities they were involved in. She shared her love and support wholeheartedly, to know her was to love her. 

Outside of her career, Barbara had a vibrant personality that shown through her excitement for WWE, delightful outings with the love of her life, and strong faith as a devout member of East Rockingham Free Will Baptist Church. Her kindness and caring nature touched the lives of all who knew her and will continue through her children. 

She is survived by her loving husband James Leroy Lyerly of the home; her children Jeanine Lyerly Hanson (Shawn) of Rockingham and Leigh Lyerly Hoffman (Duane) of Cordova; her son James LeVaughn “Biggie” Lyerly (Kim) of Rockingham; as well as her cherished grandchildren Zack Hinson, Wade Hoffman, Ryelan Lyerly, Emmaleigh Hoffman, Kinsie Lyerly, Hunter Lyerly and brother Rev. Dr. Bill Vaughn (Jeannene).

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents Tom C. and Edna Paul Vaughn, and brother Tom C Vaughn Jr. but leaves behind a legacy of love and beautiful memories with those who survive her.

Services to honor and remember Barbara’s life will be held on Monday, August 5th from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham, NC. A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, August 6th at 12PM at East Rockingham Freewill Baptist Church on Airport Road with Rev. Dr. Bill Vaughn and Pastor Johnny Johnson officiating.

Interment will follow at Eastside Cemetery.
