Barbara Ann Day

Barbara Ann Day, age 88, of Charlotte, NC and formerly of Marco Island, FL, passed away peacefully on February 11th, 2021.

Barbara was born on August 1, 1932 in Mountain City, TN.  Her parents, Morris and Geneva Eckard eventually moved to Norfolk, VA where she graduated from Norview High School in 1950.  It was in Norfolk that she met and married Captain Ed R. Day Jr.  His Naval career afforded the couple opportunity to travel and establish many lifelong relationships. In 1975, they retired to Marco Island, FL.  Barbara loved the beauty of the Island and considered it home for 42 years.  While there, she attended United Church of Marco Island.   Her favorite past time was doting over her beloved American Eskimo, Niki. Barbara was a professional at shopping, a skill she carefully honed.  Her husband was known to fondly tease her about her hobby by saying she was out “stuffing cash registers”.  Those who knew her would agree that she was always meticulously groomed with just the right shade of lip stick!  She enjoyed time with friends and family, but her greatest joy was her grandchildren!  In 2017, as her health began to decline, Barbara re-located to Charlotte, NC.   Her infectious smile and good humor will forever be remembered by the numerous friends and family she leaves behind.

Barbara is survived by her stepsons, Ed Day (Luanne) and Jim Day (Michele) of Charlotte, NC, her sister, Colleen Eckard of Richmond, VA, and Sandy Martinette Goodman of LeGrange, Ga., grandchildren, Kelly Stilb (Dan) of Lawrenceville, GA, Aaron Martinette of Fort Collins, CO, Jordan Day (Jackie), Ginny Day, and Maddy Day of Charlotte, NC, Addison Day of Winston-Salem, Shaffer Day of Charlotte, Grier Carson (Stephanie) of Bloomington IN, Glen Carson (Miranda) of Fishers, IN, Holly McClure (Darrin) of Indianapolis, IN, Ridley Beierschmitt (Denise) of Seattle, WA, Stefanie Beierschmitt of Asheville, NC, and twelve great grandchildren.   She is preceded in death by her husband, Captain Ed R Day Jr, Parents, Morris and Geneva Eckard, son, Michael Martinette III, brother, Eddie Eckard, stepdaughters, Margie Dolson(Steve) and Caroline Beierschmitt(Dennis), and grandson Edward Day IV “Chip”.

A graveside service is planned for Saturday, February 20th, at 1:00 pm at Chesapeake Memorial Gardens in Chesapeake, VA.

The family would like to offer sincere thanks to the staff at Waltonwood Providence, in Charlotte, NC and Hospice of Charlotte for their compassionate care and service.
