Annie Puckett Darnell

Annie Bell Puckett Darnell, 71, of Ellerbe, passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at her home.

Mrs. Darnell was born September 19, 1949 in Richmond County, NC, a daughter of the late William Riley and Mattie Lea McDonald Puckett. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and had retired from L’Eggs Hosiery/Aleo Plant. Following her retirement, she was a bus driver for Richmond County Schools. She loved driving the bus and interacting with the children. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Howell Gray Darnell, Jr, and sisters, Gracie Comer and Jane Spear.

Surviving are her loving and devoted husband of 51 years, Howell Gray Darnell, granddaughter, Katie Mendiguren (Josh), a great grandchild on the way and brothers, William Riley Puckett, Jr., Don Charles Puckett, and Jimmy Ray Puckett.

Graveside services will be at 11 am Saturday at Ellerbe Cemetery with Rev. Danny Strickland officiating. Face coverings are required and please practice social distancing.  Mrs. Darnell will lie in state from 1-3 pm Friday at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham.
