A celebration of life memorial service will be conducted at 3:00 PM Saturday, April 24, at New Hope Freewill Baptist Church.

Alice Gloria (Thompson) Smith, 75, passed away unexpectedly at her daughter’s home Friday, April 16, 2021. A native of Richmond County, she was born August 5, 1945, a daughter of the late Lacy and Inez Campbell Thompson. Also preceding her in death was a son, Tony Smith, and two brothers, Danny and Bobby Thompson.

She devoted her life’s work to her family as a homemaker. She also served as custodian and secretary of her church, New Hope Freewill Baptist, where she was a member for most of her life. In her leisure time, she enjoyed word search puzzles.

She leaves behind her beloved husband of almost 57 years, Jerry Roger Smith; two daughters, Allison Pence (Freddie) and Crystal Jenks (Kenny), both of Rockingham; two grandchildren, Raven Pence and Brittany Bates (Brandon); a great grandchild, McKenna Bates, plus one “on-the-way”; a brother, Richard Thompson (Penny) of Oklahoma; and a sister, Donna Almond (Larry) of Albemarle.
