David Floyd (Bill) Warner, 87, of 170 W. Church St., Ellerbe died Saturday, January 20, 2007 at his home. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 am Monday, January 22nd at First United Methodist Church in Ellerbe with Rev. Donald Daniel officiating. He was born April 10, 1919, the son of the late David Franklin and Otis Byrd Gardner Warner. He was married to Geraldine Covington Warner, who preceded him in death in 1986. He, also, was preceded in death by a brother, Francis Gardner (Jack) Warner. He is survived by a sister, Lee Warner Vinroot; nieces, Susan Vinroot Jones and Donald of Duluth, GA, and Linda Warner Baldwin and husband Jeff of Lumberton; nephews, Russell Warner and family of Fayetteville, Franklin Warner and family of Clayton, Paul David Warner and family of Salisbury, MD, and Jon Frederic Vinroot of Montgomery County; and three great nieces and nine great nephews. David, known by many as ‘Bill’, was born and raised in Richmond Co., received his education at Ellerbe High School under the direction of respected principal Richard F. Little, and was a World War II veteran who served four and a half years in the US Army Signal Corps, Elgin Field, FL with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He retired after twenty-five years in the Administrative Offices of Burlington Industries. He had previously worked for RJ Reynolds Tobacco Co. Bill Warner was known throughout Richmond County as an avid fox hunter. He was considered an expert on fox hounds. He bred, trained, and hunted dogs, and could talk at length about the pedigrees of each one. His many regional, state, and national trophies attest to his knowledge. He has held the offices of Secretary, Treasurer, and Field Trail Judge of the NC Fox Hunter’s Association. He was, also, a member of the Hunt Club in Vass, NC. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm Sunday at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe and other times at the home at 170 W. Church St., Ellerbe.
