Homer Davis Benoist

Homer Davis Benoist, 94, of Rockingham, died Monday, January 15, 2007 at Britthaven of Hamlet. Mr. Benoist was born January 3, 1913 in Richmond County, a son of the late Will and Rosa Frye Benoist. He owned and operated Five Points Grocery until his retirement and was a member of West Rockingham United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wives, Frances Currie Benoist , Elizabeth “Lib” McCroskey Benoist, three brothers, Clyde, Fred and Cam Benoist and two sisters, Gertrude Napier and Lottie Gainey. Surviving four daughters, Carolyn Jenkins of Shallotte, Edith Henry of Rockingham, Jean Anderson and husband Reese of Hamlet, and Kay Diggs of Rockingham, four grandsons, Kent Jenkins and wife Lori, Steve Henry, Ken Anderson and wife Patsy, Davis Diggs and wife Tonia, two granddaughters, Susan A. Dawkins and husband Tim, and Myra H. Sanford and husband Tony, and 11 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday at West Rockingham United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Chandler officiating. Interment will follow in Richmond County Memorial Park. The family will see friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Tuesday at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham and at other times at the home of Kay Diggs, 120 Flowers St. Rockingham. Memorials may be made to West Rockingham United Methodist Church, 217 W. US 74 Hwy Rockingham, NC 28379.
