James N. ‘Jimmy’ Gibson, 72, of 218 Green Lake Church Rd., Rockingham died Tuesday, December 26, 2006 at his home. He was born February 17, 1934 in Richmond Co., a son of the late Gladys Watson Gibson and Jasper Gibson. Mr. Gibson was retired with the Department of Transportation as a Surveyor. He was a member of Ledbetter United Methodist Church, where he was a Lay speaker, Chairman of Trustees, Chair of the Administrative Board, and Sunday school superintendent. Mr. Gibson, also, served in the U. S. Army and the National Guard and was member of American Legion Post 147. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Friday, December 29th at Ledbetter United Methodist Church with Rev. Roger Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in Richmond Memorial Park. Surviving are his wife, Betty Gibson of the home; three children, James Gibson and wife Rita of Rockingham, Amy G. Porter and husband John of Rockingham, and Lynn G. Roman and husband Brian of Albemarle; four grandchildren, Trey Gibson, Chris Gibson, Kate Gibson, and Jonathan Porter; and one sister, Rachel Ranson of Charlotte. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 to 8 pm at Ledbetter United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Ledbetter United Methodist Church Building Fund, c/o Martha Hughes, 927 E.
