Annie Benson Brady

Annie Brady was born on November 28, 1919. She moved with her parents, David and Pearl Marie Walker Benson from Bladen County and lived all her adult life in Rockingham. She grew up in a family of eleven children. As a young girl she was responsible for much of the care of her brothers and sisters. She talked of ironing their shirts and making the lunches. She is survived by her brothers Steve Paul and J.R. Benson and her sisters Edna Vaughn and Ella Mae Paul. In 1939 she married Leroy Brady. who predeceased her in 2003. In their early years they worked in the mill, lived in a mill house and had three children, Margaret, Eric and Linda. Later, Annie worked as a beautician in her own shop beside their house and Leroy sold insurance and mill supplies. They saw that all three children got University degrees. Annie is survived by all three. Margaret and her husband Mark Clifton live in Hendersonville, N.C., Eric lives in Greensboro, N.C. and Linda and her husband, John Novak live in Canada. She is also survived by two grandchildren: Natalie Novak who lives in Mexico and Mike Bolen who lives in Florida. Both now work as scuba divers. Annie Brady will be missed by many people, especially by her younger sister, Edna Vaughn, who did so much for her, And by her friend and neighbor Claire Scott. Her advice to her family and friends was: Don't put off what you want to do today - you may be too old, or too sick to do it tomorrow." Enjoy Life and do it now!"
