Rev. James Millard Short

Rev. James M. Short, 78, of 110 E. Main Street, Ellerbe died Saturday, October 28, 2006at First Health Richmond Memorial Hospital in Rockingham. He was born August 21, 1928 in Moore Co., a son of the late Floyd Short and Ella Williamson Black Short. Rev. Short was a graduate of Pfeiffer College, Elon College, and Duke University. He started his ministry in 1956 with the United Methodist Church and served until his retirement in 1997. From 1997 to 2002, Rev. Short served as minister for Ledbetter United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 pm Tuesday, October 31st in the chapel of Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe with Rev. Donald Daniel and Rev. Roger Thompson officiating. Interment will follow at Lafayette Memorial Park in Fayetteville. Surviving are a son, Jamie Short of the home; a daughter, Kay S. Hudson of Albemarle; five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild; and one sister, Alma S. Scott. Rev. Short was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Katherine Smith Short in 2003 and a daughter, Gloria Jean S. Haywood. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 to 8 pm at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe. Memorials may be made to Ledbetter United Methodist Church, 142 Eli Dr., Rockingham, NC 28379.
