Lura Joann Wilson Byers

Lura Joann Wilson Byers, 79, of Albemarle, NC, formerly of Rockingham, NC and Ashland, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, September 12, 2017. Mrs. Byers was born December 15, 1937 in Richmond County, a daughter of the late George T. and Nayrilla Dunn Wilson. She had been a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Ashland, Ohio, had worked with the Ashland City School System as lunch time monitor and had co-owned several restaurants and catering services with her husband. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip R. Byers; a son, Phillip W. Byers; brothers and sisters, Johnsie Russo, Georgia White, Judy Wilson, Kerney Wilson, Mitchell Wilson, Tom Wilson and Jewel McRae. Surviving are her children, Cynthia B. Neal (Gerald) of Albemarle, Douglas P. Byers (Erica) of Lewis Center, Ohio; grandchildren, Carter, Tessa and Tieren Byers, Taylor and Garrett Neal; brother, Levon Wilson (Vera) of Hamlet and sister, Della Denson (Carl) of Rockingham. Funeral services in Rockingham will be at 2 pm Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham with her nephew, Rev. Kerney Wilson, Jr. officiating. The family will see friends following the service Saturday at the funeral home. In Ashland, the family will greet friends starting at 1pm Saturday, September 23, 2017 at First Christian Church, 1425 King Rd., Ashland, Ohio with funeral services at 2pm. Interment will follow in Nankin Cemetery, Nankin, Ohio. Wappner Funeral Directors will be assisting the family in Ashland.
