Marie East McQueen, 81, of Derby, passed away Sunday, September 3, 2017 in Pinehurst. Mrs. McQueen was born September 26, 1935 in Red Springs, NC, a daughter of the late Sam Jones and Helen McPhaul East. She had graduated from Ellerbe High School, Class of 1953 and was owner of McQueen Century Old Farm in Derby. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alonzo, daughter, Pamela Kay, brothers, Hugh, Weaver, Knox, Sam Jr, Bill and sister Clara Pressley. Surviving are her daughters, Judy Walters of Sanford, Linda McQueen of Derby; grandchildren, Heather McKenzie of Sanford, Sierra McQueen of Rockingham, Melody Lowman of Greensboro; great grandchildren, Alex Marie Little, William Alonzo Gabriel Little, Murphy Lewis (Mac) McKenzie, III, all of Sanford; brother, Wilton East of Mt. Gilead; sister, Betty Dennis of Ellerbe and special friend, Anthony Furr of West End. Funeral services will be at 2pm Thursday at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe. Interment will follow in Jones Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will see friends from 6 to 8 pm Wednesday at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe and at other times at the home.
