James "Jimmy" Ellis Haywood, Jr

James Ellis “Jimmy” Haywood, Jr., 80, of Rockingham, passed away Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Montgomery Village in Star. Mr. Haywood was born April 23, 1937 in Richmond County, a son of the late James Ellis and Clara Ellen Dukes Haywood. He served his country in the US Army, was a member of First Baptist Church in Rockingham and had retired from CSX Railroad. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Deanna Marie Haywood, siblings, Jack Haywood, Elsie Kelly, Carlyle Haywood, Edna Haywood and Martin Haywood. Surviving are his sister, Martha Crump of Rockingham and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 4pm Sunday, May 14, 2017 at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham with his nephew, George Crump, III officiating. Interment will follow in Haywood Cemetery. The family will see friends from 6 to 9 pm Saturday at the home on Caroline Street. The family would like to thank Carrie Steele and the staff of Montgomery Village for their kind and compassionate care of Uncle Jimmy for almost 3 years and also the staff of FirstHealth Hospice of Moore County.
