Arthur LeRoy Downs, Jr.

Arthur LeRoy Downs, Jr., 72, of Rockingham, passed away May 2, 2017 at his home. Arthur was born July 26, 1944 in Richmond County, son of the late Arthur LeRoy Downs and Evelyn Ford Downs . He retired from J. P. Stevens and the joy of his life became his music. He enjoyed playing guitar and other musical instruments, including banjo, keyboard and mandolin. He was preceded in death by his father, an infant daughter, Mary Evelyn Downs, brothers, Elton Dale Downs, and Daniel Anthony Downs. Surviving are his wife, Bebee Sellars Downs of the home; son, John Anthony Downs, daughter, Victoria Elizabeth Downs McGuire(Dustin) his mother, Evelyn Ford Brown and step-father John E. Brown; and his sister Teressa Victoria Beavers(Billy) and a grandson, Dante Jeremiah McGuire. A memorial service will be held at Zion United Methodist Church on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 2:00 pm with the Rev. Brian Perry, Rev. Joe B. Wilkes, Jr. and Elder Michael Evans. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to be made to the family in care of New Testament Prayer Chapel, 708 Fayetteville Road, Rockingham, NC 28379.
