Jewell Ballard Lockhart

Jewell Ballard Lockhart, 92, of Ellerbe, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2017 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst. Mrs. Lockhart was born August 16, 1924 in Richmond County, a daughter of the late John Oscar and Laura Lillie Lisk Ballard. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Ellerbe, had worked with Commonwealth Hosiery for 30 years and retired after 20 years with L.G. Dewitt Trucking. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, C.F. Lockhart, son, Charles B. “Chuck” Lockhart, brother, Carson Ballard and sisters, Irene Tackett and Lucy Pries. Surviving are her daughter, Maria Talbert of West End; grandson, Charlie Wallace of Ellerbe and brothers, John Oscar Ballard of California, Jerry Ballard of Tennessee and Bill Ballard of Asheville. Graveside services will be at 2 pm Thursday at Ellerbe Cemetery with Rev. Otis Goins officiating. The family will see friends from 6 to 8 pm Wednesday at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe and at other times at the home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ellerbe Rescue Squad or to the church of your choice.
