Ms Velva Grant Hamilton, 92, of Cordova, passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at Hospice Haven. She was born December 31, 1924 in Richmond County, a daughter of the late Jesse Marvin and Mary Belle (Polly) Chavis Grant. Ms. Hamilton was a retired textile worker from Klopman Mills. She was an avid gardener, loved to paint, consume a book in an afternoon, traveled extensively before age caught up with her, and enjoyed beading, but the love of her life was her family. She was very proud of her children and grandchildren and she loved her extended family as much as her own. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cliff Hamilton, daughter Elaine Carol Hamilton Smith, sons, Clifton Byron, Howard Stephen and Harry “Stick” Hamilton and grandson Timothy Ray West. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Shadie Grant Huckabee, Elsie Grant Carpenter, Effie Grant Parker, Annie Fay Grant Johnson, Marvin Grant, Homer Grant and Robert Grant. Ms. Hamilton is survived by her daughter, Kathy (Sue) West Phillips, sons, Pete Hamilton (Bonnie) of Jamestown and Rick Hamilton (Irma) of Hamlet; sister, Annie Mae Bowman of Wallace, SC; son-in-law, Robin Smith of Loris, SC; grandchildren, Sandy Hamilton, Mike Howell, Douglas Smith, Robyn Martin, James (Todd) Hamilton, and Zuleyka Hamilton; great-grandchildren, Adam Bishop, Travis Gardner, Kelly Spears, Allison Cheatham, Brittany Cheatham, Bryce Cheatham, Noel Billings, Katherine Billings, Jake Howell, Carol Hamilton, Sebastian Hamilton and Cameline Hamilton; great-great-grandchildren, Samaria Billings, Atticus Burns, Emalee Billings, Anna Billings, Addison Howell and Asher Lowery. Services will be held at Carter Funeral Home Chapel at 3:00 pm Saturday, April 1, with Rev. Ricky Jacobs officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery in Wallace, SC. The family will receive friends and family prior to the funeral services from 1:45 to 2:45 pm and at other times at the home on Center Street in Cordova. The family would like to thank Dr. Fred McQueen, Dr. Shoukath Ansari and the staff of Hospice with special thanks to Cayce Terry, Sybil Oxendine and Dr. Steven Strobel for the care given to Ms. Hamilton.
