Mrs. Dorothy Jane Shepard, 65, of 570 Pleasant Hill Church Rd., Ellerbe died Sunday, March 12, 2006 at her home. She was born September 24, 1940 in Richmond County, a daughter of the late William and Josephine Heath Carroll. Mrs. Shepard was a member of First United Methodist Church in Ellerbe and was employed as a Teacher’s Assistant at Washington Street Primary School. Funeral services will be conducted 4:00 pm Wednesday, March 15th in the chapel of Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe with Rev. Wayne Tuttle and Rev. Donald Daniel officiating. Interment will follow in Ellerbe Cemetery. Surviving are; three daughters, Jo Ann Blake of Ellerbe, Darlene Estridge of Rockingham, and Karen ‘Kristy’ Shepard of Asheboro; a son, Jerry Shepard of Ellerbe; a brother, Ray Carroll of Ellerbe; two step-brothers, Terry Thompson of Ellerbe and Ken Thompson of Rockingham; three step-sisters, Debbie Abbott of Ellerbe, Ann Lyerly of Rockingham, and Pam Thompson of California; ten grandchildren and one great grandchild. Mrs. Shepard was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Shepard, Jr., in 2001, a son, Elvis Michael Shepard in 2002, and a sister, Nancy Shaw. Memorials may be made to Washington Street Primary School, 566 E. Washington St. Ext., Rockingham, NC 28379 The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe.
