Warren Dee Hawks

Mr. Warren Dee Hawks, 81, of 1240 Cartledge Creek Rd., Ellerbe died Monday, February 27, 2006 at First Health Richmond Memorial Hospital. He was born July 17, 1924 in Patrick Co., VA, a son of the late Sam and Priscilla Bowman Hawks. Mr. Hawks was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, was a deacon for fifty years, taught Sunday school, and directed the youth choir. He was a retired supervisor with the Department of Transportation, was a farmer, and had a grocery store at one time. Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 pm Thursday, March 2nd at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Carl Moree and Rev. Eugene McNair officiating. Interment will follow in Ellerbe Cemetery. Surviving are; his wife, Ruby Day Slate Hawks; sons, Rev. Leon and Gloria Robbins Hawks of Kannapolis, Ronald and Susan Haywood Hawks of Ellerbe, Mike and Rose Snead Hawks of Rockingham and Rev. Tim and Diana Powell Hawks of Ellerbe; grandchildren, Kim Britt and husband Tim of Asheboro, Rev. Chris Hawks and wife Heather of Concord, Evan Hawks, Ann Hawks, Elizabeth Hawks and Bennett Hawks, all of Ellerbe, Jessica and Grae Hawks, Erik and Andrew Hawks, all of Rockingham; great grandchildren, Christian, Will, and Emma Grace Britt and Luke and Samuel Hawks; sisters, Rada Cooper of Ellerbe, Sue Robison of Mt. Airy, and Gladys Colen of Hamlet; a brother, Ed Hawks of Charlotte; and Danny Hawks and Ronnie Rollins, who were like sons. Mr. Hawks was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Grace Reynolds Hawks in 1986. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 to 8:30 pm at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe.
