Mr. Jack Reid Martin 76, 0f 137 N. Beaunit Ave. Rockingham died Wednesday May 9, 2007 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital. Mr. Martin was born February 19, 1931 in Richmond County, a son of the late Robert and Lucy Bean Martin. Mr. Martin worked as a foreman at Eastern Stainless Steel, then later worked his farm, always having his vegetable garden. He served his country in the U. S. Army in the 3rd Infantry Division, during the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of the DAV and was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Martin is survived by his wife Jean Pittman Martin; two sons Alan Martin and wife Donna,and Tim Martin and wife Jane both of Rockingham; one daughter Teresa Martin Humphries and husband Grady of Camden SC, four sisters, Thelma Bryant of Houston, TX, Bobbie White, Lucille Butler and husband Evans and Anne Anderson and husband Carl, all of Rockingham; four grandchildren, Bryan Atkinson, Casey Atkinson, Alan Martin Jr., and Kelly Martin; one great grandchild Trace Atkinson. He was preceded in death by brothers Bill, John, Joe, and Robert Martin and sisters Dorothy Smith, Lib Sanders and Betty Opal. Funeral services will be held Saturday May 12, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Pine Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Tuttle officiating. Burial will follow at Richmond County Memorial Park with military honors. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:30-8:00 pm at Carter Funeral Home of Rockingham and at other times at the home.
