John Wesley Layton

John Wesley Layton, Sr., 74 of Rockingham passed away at his home on November 16, 2017 surrounded by his family. Mr. Layton was born on October 18, 1943 in Moore County a son of the late Horace and Louise Barber Layton. He was retired from Community News, where he was press manager, was a member of the National Guard and a past governor of the Rockingham Moose Lodge. Lodge. He was preceded in death by a son, Randy Lee Layton, Sr. Surviving are his wife, Elaine Layton; son, John Wesley Layton, Jr.; siblings, Mary Frances Smith, Carolyn Jean Chavis (Ken),  James Martin Layton (Betty), Glenda Rogers(Mike), Kenneth Joel Layton(Dawn), and grandchildren, Cameron Tyson and Randy Layton, Jr.  Funeral service will be at 2:00 pm Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at Highland Acres Church of God. Burial will follow in the cemetery of Pleasant Hills United Methodist Church in Wallace, SC.  The family will receive friends on Monday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham.  The family request memorials be made to Hospice of Richmond County, 1119 N US Hwy 1, Rockingham, NC 28379 or Highland Acres Church of God, P.O. Box 875, Rockingham, NC 28379.
